Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert was diagnosed with coronavirus last week, and now his daughter is encouraging others to not follow in his footsteps.
Caroline Gohmert, a musician who goes by BELLSAINT, went to Twitter to talk about her father’s diagnosis. Gohmert previously refused to wear a mask on Capitol Hill.

“Wearing a mask is a non-partisan issue,” Caroline Gohmert wrote in a note posted to Twitter. “The advice of medical experts shouldn’t be politicized. My father ignored medical expertise and now he has COVID.”
“Please, please listen to medical experts,” Caroline continued. “It’s not worth following a president who has no remorse for leading his followers to an early grave.”
The Republican from Texas drew attention when he refused to wear a mask on Capitol Hill, saying he didn’t need to because he was being tested regularly for COVID-19.
“I don’t have the coronavirus, turns out as of yesterday I’ve never had it. But if I get it, you’ll never see me without a mask,” Gohmert told CNN in June.
Gohmert tested positive for coronavirus right before he was set to join President Donald Trump on a trip to Texas. He reportedly then went to Capitol Hill to inform his staff in person that he had contracted COVID-19.
Gohmert said in a statement posted to Twitter that he had been wearing a mask often for two weeks prior to his diagnosis.
“I don’t know about everybody, but when I have a mask on, I’m moving it to make it comfortable and I can’t help but wonder if that puts some germs in the mask,” Gohmert continued. “Anyway, who knows.”
COVID-19 ON CAPITOL HILL: Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas is ‘all in’ on hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19
On July 30, Gohmert told Fox News that he would treat his coronavirus with hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug touted by President Donald Trump and other Republicans that scientists have warned against using for COVID-19 treatment.
In his initial statement, Gohmert said he was asymptomatic.
