James Harden on live TV: ‘Offensively, I played like sh–’

When you put a live microphone in front of a jubilant player’s bearded faced, be ready for what you might get.

Shortly after James Harden came up with the biggest defensive play of his career – a block of a Lu Dort 3-pointer with 4.8 seconds left that helped seal the Rockets’ Game 7 win over the Thunder on Wednesday – ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth grabbed him on the court for a postgame interview.

“Offensively, I played like sh–, excuse my language, but I couldn’t make a shot,” Harden said in his first response.

Harden was close to being scapegoated for another Rockets’ elimination game loss. He scored 17 points and shot just 4-for-15 from the field, and made just one of nine 3-point attempts. But, all is forgiven, after his defense saved his team.

“I turned the ball over; just doing everything that was not supposed to happen, but I just kept sticking with it.” Harden said in his ESPN interview. “My teammates give me confidence throughout the course of games. Defensively, I had to make a play. Dort had been knocking down some shots tonight, so I wanted to get out to him.”
