Evacuations are already under way for many areas.
“We want to make sure that we provide easy access for people who may be traveling throughout areas,” Hidalgo said in a press conference Tuesday.
According to the HCTRA, “The order applies to HCTRA roadways and does not include roads not governed by Harris County.”
Houstonians are being urged to stay off the roads as much as possible to allow for the safe evacuation of residents leaving Galveston, which issued a mandatory evacuation order Tuesday morning.
