Karen Harpold, a Realtor with Greenwood King Properties, brings unusual yet greatly beneficial skills and knowledge to her real estate clients. Her previous career was as a criminal appellate lawyer.
“I have a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, which was my first career. When I was getting my real estate license, I already had a foundation in contracts from law school and the practice of law. However, my passion and obsession are homes and architectural/interior design,” Harpold said.
Moreover, her husband’s family has always been involved in real estate in one way or another, and her mother-in-law previously worked for Greenwood King as well. “Osmosis” has been at work.
Skills Harpold brings to her real estate clients include understanding the contractual aspect of buying and selling a home, extensive knowledge of home styles, design and value, conscientiousness and attention to detail, and creative problem-solving.
Additionally, she and her husband purchased their home in 1997, which subsequently flooded in both Tropical Storm Allison and Hurricane Harvey.
“Following Harvey, we decided to tear it down and rebuild. I was directly involved in the architectural process of building our home from the ground up, and personally handled the interior design and decor decisions,” Harpold said.
Harpold also speaks some Spanish.
“When our children were younger, we would travel to San Miguel de Allende each summer for a month to take Spanish lessons and enjoy the culture and slower pace,” Harpold said.
Additionally, her own experience in building and designing her family’s home translates to an ability to help her clients visualize the potential in a home or effectively prepare a home for sale.
Harpold, a fourth-generation native Houstonian, is known for her love of people, listening to them carefully and getting to know them. She also is honest, ethical, outgoing, knows Houston, and is friendly, organized, and easily approachable. She goes above and beyond for her clients.
“I think our lives are made much richer by having a large and varied tapestry of personal and professional relationships. Houston is the perfect place for this. It is an honor for me to use my expertise as a Realtor to help my clients achieve a goal or reach a dream,” Harpold said.
Harpold’s main focus areas are Braeswood Place, West University and Rice/Museum District. She grew up in Braes Heights and currently lives there. She has also lived in West University and she spent a lot of time growing up in the Museum District.
